On November, 1st, researchers from the Smart Services Research Unit at HAMK visited IFSC Campus Florianópolis.
They visited research groups in our institution and also gave a presentation for students. Through the exchange program PROPICIE, our students have had the opportunity to develop research in Finland.

As part of the National Week for Science and Technology, the Research Group in Scientific Computing for Engineering (PECCE-IFSC) offered the workshop: Artificial Intelligence: Machine Learning with Python last week (Oct 17).
We discussed AI, supervised learning, and two classifiers: kNN and decision trees.

To help students that are attending ECA18801 classes, I developed a teaching assistant bot. It talks through Telegram (messaging app). Electron, the assistant, helps on math and electricity topics.
How to talk to Electron:
1. Install Telegram
Android
iPhone and iPad
Other options (web, windows phone, ...) at https://telegram.org/apps
2. Access https://t.me/electronsp_bot or search for Electronsp at Telegram.
3. That's it! Any question or suggestion, send a message directly to Electron.

Final project at Digital Signal Processing II
As a final project for the Digital Signal Processing II course, one of the students implemented a delay effect for an electric guitar.
The main board is a STM32F4Discovery (ARM Cortex M4). For audio input and output, the board is connected to a Wolfson Pi Audio Board.
From the theoretical point of view, delay is very easy. However, while implementing, one should take into account the internal buffers and the available memory.

Meeting of the remote lab project VISIR+
Last week, I attended a meeting of the VISIR+ project at the Universidade do Algarve, in Faro, Portugal. VISIR+ is a project developed in partnership with 12 institutions, 6 countries and 2 continents, Europe and Latin America. It is co-founded by the Erasmus+ Program from European Union.
VISIR is a remote laboratory for electricity and electronics. Here at IFSC, I am using VISIR in the Electricity classes. This way, students have more opportunities to build real circuits and compare practical results with the theoretical analysis. You can try a demo session at https://visir.florianopolis.ifsc.edu.br
At VISIR, you can build circuits using a breadboard and operate real instruments like a power supply and multimeter. Since it is not a simulator, real issues like noise can be seen in the measurements.
